General information only

The content of this site is patient education. It describes the structures of the skin, how a complaint is assigned to one of them, and what each option costs in time, recovery and risk. It is not a diagnosis, it is not a treatment recommendation for any individual, and it does not create a doctor-patient relationship.

No substitute for examination

Which structure is producing your own mark, whether your barrier is intact enough to tolerate a course, whether a lesion is benign, and how your skin is likely to respond are findings that can only be established by examining you and taking your history. Reading this site cannot substitute for that, and a plan made from a website alone is a plan made without information.

Results vary and are not guaranteed

Individual results differ, and no practitioner and no website can promise an outcome. A course that evened colour in one person may leave it largely unchanged in another, pigment that faded may return over months, and no treatment here removes a scar or restores skin that has lost its elasticity. Any statement that appears to promise more than that should be treated with suspicion wherever you encounter it.

If something is wrong after a treatment

If you have had a skin treatment and the area becomes increasingly painful, red, hot and swollen, or blisters, weeps or forms a crust that was not expected, or if you develop a fever, contact the treating team or seek medical care promptly rather than waiting for a routine appointment. A mole or lesion that changes after a procedure should also be shown to a clinician.
